picked up some Autoglym HD at the area walmart, and am wondering if it mutes metallics at all. going to try it out on my mothers black metallic VW CC this weekend or when i get time to go down there.
Of all the metallic cars I have seen with HD applied, I can say it doesn't have an appreciable muting quality as the metallic flakes are still very prominent and visible.
thanks for your input. im really exciting to try this wax out, since its been a while since i've used any nuba really. i've been on a huge sealant kick for a while. i keep hearing so many great things.
Billy, I tried HD on a fender of my dark silver S2000, and it looked GREAT. It didn't mute the flake at all. It was a very bright, glossy look, but I wouldn't call it "sterile" either. Kind of a nice compromise between a classic sealant look and that of, say, RBOE. Keeping in mind that I just did a single fender. I have a feeling it'll end up being the best $35 wax ever. Next time I pick a nuba, I'll definitely try it on a whole car. I've been back on a big Auto Balm kick lately. :lol:
awesome thats just what i was hoping to hear. ive really been preferring the look of sealants over the "nuba glow" for a while now, so im glad to hear that HD doesnt give that sterile look. very excited to try it.
I don't think it mutes it, as long as you have the proper cabling. With regular RCA cables, it'll definitely seem muted. However, put some nice HDMI cables on there and it'll look wicked!
I was wondering about the metallic being muted myself. I just picked up one at my local walmart. I have been using CK RMG and CMW buffed off with OCW and its awesome on metallic. I do have srp but havent tried it on my car yet since I was worried about the metallic with it too. Has anyone tried AGHD over RMG ?
Well then HD is great for you because it is the best of both worlds with sealant qualities with some carnauba thrown in for kicks. I tried it at my local detailing shop in socal who carry Autoglym and the owner offered to let me try it out and was impressed. It wasn't worth the price they wanted but the walmart price kicks but.
thanks again. Ken just shot me a BBM regarding this. he just applied HD to his gray metallic Passat wagon and has reported that it did not seem to mute the metallic in his car at all.
