first thread: http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f47/wtf-correction-14004.html finished up the WTF correction today. overall i put just over 20 hours into the paints finish, and still didnt get full correction, nor did i expect to. turns out, whatever people say sticky clearcoat is, this car has it. even freakin ULTRAFINA was gumming up on it. one swipe of a MF and i was inducing marring. it was a nightmare. id say about 80% correction was achieved, minus the gouges, chips, deep scratches, and sections where the clear was failing. process was 3M Compound with a 9inch wool pad at speeds up to 2200 rpm (i periodically was spritzing the panels with water to keep temps down and lubrication up), 3M Machine Polish Swirl Remover on black 3M Waffle, and then 3M Ultrafina on Blue Ultrafina pad. protection was Collinite 845. one coat today and one coat tomorrow. i would have cut off my left arm to have like 10 ounces of M105 at my disposal, but i was making the best of what i had to work with, which was primarily body shop compounds/polishes. working with these products has reaffirmed to me how lucky we are to have such great products at our disposal. we're so spoiled sometimes, arent we? the whole time i was complaining in my head how i wish i had some 4inch spot pads and different polishes, and this and that. but this just goes to show that all our high end expensive products dont really mean shit unless you know what you're doing. I'll bring my actual camera in tomorrow to get some legit afters. After Compound/Wool After middle step and ultrafina: After LSP:
looks like you brought some gloss back to it. did it have a spoiler on it? i see weird marks on the trunk likd like holes for a spolier.
yeah its around 80 percent defect free. the pics from my phone dont do it justice though. looks tits in person. i removed the spoiler so i could get at the oxidation and swirls under it and around where it sits on the hood.
Billy..a couple of comments. First your most astute observation on how it is the person and not the products. Yes we develop our favourites, but we all cut our teeth on other products and turned out finished jobs that were great. Second, you really persevered on this car and it looks good on you. I'd love to see some outside shots with a good camera. The amateur throws in the towel; the professional keeps at it with whatever it takes till he's pleased. Good job.
thanks ev thanks gianni. boss better have been happy with it (which he was, he said he was very impressed). he refused to do the car and handed it off to me. one of our parts guys had bought it so he wanted it brought back to life. i ended up getting paid on the clock to work on the car, plus a sweet tip from the guy who bought it. thanks ken i appreciate the kind words. thanks so much. thanks rich, your comments are very much appreciated. i really wish i could have gotten some shots with a real camera, and outside shots too, so you guys could really see how it turned out. i wanted to make/prove a point with this car, simply that it can be done, and without all the nice "high end" stuff we've all come to love and somewhat take for granted. keep in mind i did have a lot of my own supplies and equipment in my car, but i wanted to use what i would usually have at my disposal at work, and that doesnt include uber pads, menz polishes, etc. hell i didnt even use my makita or flex, i've grown used to the 'ole dewalt :shrug: :buffer:.
Looks great! Mustangs clear coats can be pretty tricky. I have done a few mustangs lately and boy talk about some work. It turned out great though.
