I will try to take a video of this but last night I was detailing a pickup and it got my pads pretty dirty and I thought about that $100 5 gallon bucket that cleans pads. Well I got creative, I filled the bucket with warm water about 3/4 full and I put a old soccer ball in the bucket and put a grit guard on the top of the ball so it floated. Then I covered my pc with a towel so it didnt get wet and i turned the speed all the way down. I put the pad on top of the grit guard and pushed down until the pad was in the water and I turned it on and with in a few seconds the pads looked new. I had on pad that was black and with in a few seconds of that it brought it back to life totally clean. I will be cutting the top out of a bucket lid that allows the the pad to go in so it doesnt spray water out of the bucket. But shoot it saved me a 100 bucks so I thought I would share. My helper asked the hell are you doing and I surprised him how clean it made the pads
Funny you posted this as I was thinking of making my own cleaner with a spare bucket and GG I have laying around the other day. Idea was to have some kind of platform with some springs on top that the GG would sit on top of, when you push the pad onto the GG the springs collapse and the pad goes into the water and thus start cleaning. Lift the polish and dry. Take the lid cut it in half and put a hole in the center for the rotary spindle so water does not splash up.
Yep, I really like his ingenuity by using a buoyant object (the soccer ball) under the grit guard. so when no pressure is applied, the grit guard sits above the water surface. And it only takes minimal pressure to submerge it. great idea!
Very creative! You could just buy 5 grit guards and stack them on top of each other for less than one of the expensive ass cleaners costs. While I'm working I use a brush and just turn the rotary on and hold the brush against the pad.
idea for you. go to home depo and get 5galon bucket and lid, cut lit so it looks like that $100 cover. if you wana get creative, cut lid in half and connect it by bolt so you can open and close it. hope you know what im talking about
So much water splashing around ? Have you ever tried the padwasher ? I've tried also homemade washers until i've bought a used Universal padwasher . I ain't going back. Save some money and wait. :thumb:
