Porsche 997 4S Cab - 2007 mod, 3.8l Time for a little treat We'll see what we can do with this one then The car has a very lo milage, and is far from bad when it comes to swirls.. This car has a SS paintjob, paintcode A1. The paint also has a 2K lacquer on top. This colour was first introduced in 1971 and I think this is one of the latest versions of this colour with the digits 747/A1. Since a couple of friends of mine was taking pictures this thread has got loads of pics.. For those of you who don't like that, my apologies;-) WARNING.......LOTS OF PICTURES... Equipment: Washi-washi: GritGuard Mothers wool glove and Dojo Wookie fist. Foam Cannon Scholl crack 9000 Maxi Suds II Cobra ?!? Just done with the VW Golf that was more than dirty: Washing next. Licence plates removed to get a good scrub: A little bit dirty, but very little heavy stuff like asphalt etc..: ahhhh, oversized breaks.. Me like: Adjusted the rear wing up, to get in to the tight areas: CG Sticky wheel 1:0 on the rims: Then some more : Another rim: Tires sprayed with the same stuff: Lower panels sprayed with Scholl Crack9000: Foam cannon loaded with four "pumps" of Maxi Suds II: Have to apologize for all the pics again.. Will only get worse: Let the soap mixture sit for some time: Rinsing with HP: Rims cleaned up nicely: Still some LSP left here : Just some more rinsing: Wheel well rinsing: Convertible sprayed with a weak mix of Grime Reaper 1:8 and foamed with Maxi Suds: Worked the cab with a medium soft brush: Then a little the other way: Convertible rinsed of: Used the rest of soap in the canon as extra lube for the next stage: Hand washing: Fuel cap cleaned up with SV detailing brush and Mothers glove: Then over to the real business with the insane wookie fist aka wolverine aka chewbacca.. Weighs in about 3 kilos when wet: Two hands chewbacca rinsing: Then over to the old favourite from Mothers: Så litt Mothers.. Was sufficient with only one on this car: Some "spiderweb": hmmmm... : Even some holo's before I've even started..: Masking with 3M: Hate masking, so ended up studying some more swirls and other defects: Back to work.. Some more masking: Convertible dried up with ScandicShine dryers: Dryed up the rest with the vacumer: Paint readings: Got the lowest reading on the doors. 102MY: ____________________________________________________________________________________ DAY 2 BE AWARE - LOTS OF PICTURES (had to do this over two posts.. mohaaaa ) Started with a small testspot: Scholl S03+ on yellow scholl pad. 4 passes with medium pressure: The feeling was really good, so I thought this was going to be an easy detail : Still a good feeling : This colour was really hard to find a good focus point on, so I tried with som tape: More polishing: Doing 2100rpm - 5/6 passes: Say hello to my tracks:car: : LOL: Little nervous I dug out a green DD pad and some scholl S30: Three passen on 1500rpm: Just trying to get focus: The S30 helped: Back to the harder work: Used Flex for bether precision: Working on some RDS's: Wanted to see what combo I needed to clean up this mess then. First up was trying to "break" down S30 without a satisfactory result. Went over to 3M UltraFine SE on blue pad. First at 2700rpm and down to 600rpm: UFSE, blue pad and DA 5/6: Still missing the lower spot: Did wipedown with Scholl CF02. The result was better since it looked like the oils from UFSE gave a wrong reality on this paint. Oils away was much better: Hood is done after about 2hrs working on it: To give a little description of this paint, I'll say that it feels like the padwants to drill it's way down in to the lacquer and stop the machine, especially when the pad fills up with a little polish. This ment changing and washing pad's way to often. Wiping of residue when the paint is "hot" is also not smart here. That will only scratch the paint. Back to work then.... Left front fender. S03 and yellow pad continues: Some deeper RDS's here: No detail without some 50/50.. NEVER EVER, even on a Porsche: Stiiiiiiiiiiiiicky paint: A little round with green pad and S30: Very thin and soft plastic details on this car. Did a little test with S30 first: A little test on the mirror to: Over to the door. Did a little test with S30 here to: Not very happy, but then I realized what the owner and I originally had agreed to do.. I was just suposed to get rid of the washing swirls and see if I could do something about the RDS's on left front.. Settled down, and did the rest with S30: The rear end had so much defects that I did not have the heart to just go one stage here. Fished out S03 and yellow for some more funny effects : Did a round over the same area with S30: Still holo's left after the correction work and the S30: Back to S30 on plastic details: Used speeds from 1500-2100rpm, depending wether I was polishing with a flat surface one the pad or not: Prior to S30: After S30: Back to the sheet metal with S03+: No more pics from the correction of this side of the car I'm afraid...lol.. Did S30 and then UFSE on DA on the rest of the car: Then some more Scholl CF02 wipedown: Wiped it of after a few minutes: Had to do some more here: Then I buffed the car again, but with a velly velly soft microfiber: Some more cleaner fluid: Pleased: Detailing: Some more: ....and then some: Inspection: Still some left, but will get the car in again in the spring.. Will take the rest then: Schaize, holos? Nope, just wax : Buff off: Cool: Wanted to take a look under the hood: Not much engine there?!?! Stop playing, and back to work: hmmmm....What should we use today then? Maybe some of this..or: CFP medium on PC with blue 3M pad. Taking no chances on this paint. Can also use CF Medium by hand: The crazy detailer: Just trying to "keepin' it real" by not using a stool: "keeping it real again": Damn... Back hurts: Over to some small details: Wax coming off now guys:doublesho : Used a SV MF to buff it off with. Really nice and tight this one.. Recomend it: ' Lots of buffing pics: Somehow this paint demanded lots of buffing: Last wipe coming up: Just kidding.. Still more: Then some inspection: Still some springtime work left: Two layers of SV Autobahn applied: Vacumed the cab with Foma combivac: This is the wrong order of doing this, but hey.. I did it..Scotchgard from 3M: Trying to avoid getting debris on the treated paint: FFFFFU"#"¤##""!¤#"!"#!¤!#¤: NOOOOOO, this stuff really sticks: The photographer stepped away to the front of the car in fear: Tryed buffing it off with some MF, but tha crap was really stuck. Even did some Crystal Rock with no results: And on we go again: SV CF Medium again: Wiped the area and very pleased that I got rid of that headache. New layer of CR was applied: Photoshoot preparation: The SV towl kept sliding down on the hood:lol: Slippely when wet: Since the car got so black I decided to apply two lovely layers of SV Crystal Rock instead of SV Endurance and Mystery. I think it deserved it: This was a funny car to detail in some sort of weird way. It was a good experience and educationally. If I would do it again, and I would have done the convertible first for sure. Did a little testdrive with the owner on slippery Norwegian winter conditions and boy, this baby moves... Tires got a final shine of SV Pneu and plastic trim got Black Wow. The meeting with the "new" car and it's owner was priceless.. He just laughed for several minutes, wich was a good sign Sorry, forgot to take pics from underneath of the car.. Maybe next time Thanks for watching!
Great work and nice writeup! Forgive my ignorance but what is Scholl CF07? Is it like Menz Inspection spray, after polish wipe-down spray?
Thanks... CF02 is similar to Menz, yes.. I believe it's water-based like top insp, but not 100% sure.. Does the same job anyway
Thanks guys.. The owner just wanted to get rid of the washing swirls and thats what we agreed to do.... I did not have the conscience to let all of the RDS's sit on this beauty so I ended up spending 4-5 more hrs then first planned.. I'll probably get this car in the spring, so I'll get to the rest then.. The owner is very interested to keep his car in good shape and the front compartment was full of quality washing equipment from ScandicShine.. I also gave him so more soap, some extra mitts and some QD and MF.
I would say the paint is about medium+ hard, but it feels sticky as #¤"#".. Not funny to do heavy correction work on.. Also did a Subary Forrester that felt kinda the same, but much softer paint.
Excellent work, and great job documenting the whole experience, I like those reflection shots they look amazing .
Great work! What are the differences/ pros + cons of using CG Sticky Gel vs. CG Diablo? Just curious.
looks amazing! Isnt it alot of passes tho? Could you of used a different product or strategy to lessen your passes?
Can't help thinking you could've saved yourself a lot of time with the Scholl S17 and their wool pad - you can get some brilliant correction with that combo. I don't rate their pads at all, so if you deal with Ben (Rubbishboy), get yourself some Liquid Shine ones, and maybe the red and cyan polishes (matching the pad colours) and see how you get on. Need to get some CF02 to play with, but if it's effectively Menz TI rebadged, then I'll not bother, as my opinion of TI is that it's diabolically crap, and my spittle was more effective!
