The Ruins of Detroit

I thought this was a really awesome series of pictures about abandoned buildings in Detroit. I like pictures of ruins for some reason. Has some symbollic value to it.

the sad part is you can take a picture of just about every other building in detroit and it burbs and they will be empty

 

Is it really that bad there?

 

I worked downtown Detroit for a number of years before moving to Florida. During that time I was robbed at gun point. Also had the passinger window busted out and t-tops stolen on an 81 vette I had. I can't say I miss the place other than going to the Red Wings games.

instead of boarded up and half knocked down buildings in the burbs it is just a sea of "Space Avalible" Signs on warehouses, office buildings completely empty strip malls (something we have lots of here) . everywhere. so yeah it sucks.

 

man thats crazy... so sad. yet it could be exactly where we are headed.

 

Gorgeous pictures. It'll take a while for Detroit to recover, if ever.

Sure the city of Detroit is not what it used to be... It used to be a major hub, it simply does not support the infrastructure it used to and as such many buildings are vacant...

I am sure I could walk around my home town (Los Angeles) and take comparable pictures.

I could very easily go around and take some beautiful pictures of Detroit that would also show that charm/culture/beauty of Detroit... In Fact, every time I take people to downtown Detroit that have never been there they comment on how different it is as compared to how portrayed.

I just took my Mother, future Mother in law and Fiancé' downtown to the BEAUTIFUL Fisher theatre to see "The Jersey Boys"... The ornate beauty of that building will make your jaw drop

I should state that I don't currently nor have I ever lived in Detroit so I am not trying to defend it... Sure it has a lot of bad but there is also a lot of good.... Years of corrupt politicians is largely responsible for the current state..
