Personally I would avoid these, from what I remember the error tolerance on these units are too great for automotive use.
^^^^ i tested this with my HL II and it was same tolerance on test strips it was within 3-5 microns at most of actual number
When this item was first spotted about 2 years ago, I went and bought 3 to test it. All of them gave different ratings, but to each his own

You are probably right, but I bought one just to get a basic idea of how much paint thickness/removal I'm dealing with ... I can't justify spending mad money on a more reliable unit. I rather have somewhat of a range than just buffing the paint to later find out it was too thin to begin with.
