What do you guys use for most one-steppers?

I wouldn't call it "a lot," but it's certainly more than you'd expect out of, say, a Lake Country white pad. In my opinion, the Uber green is in a perfect place. It'll remove more defects than you might think it should, to touch it with your hands. But, it's still forgiving enough that you can finish with it.

Generally, if whatever I'm doing won't come good with an Uber green pad and Power Finish, I probably need to consider two-stepping the vehicle anyway.

I like M205, PowerFinish, or 3M Extra Fine Compound (used this on an M6 yesterday/today and it cleaned up a lot!)

I find using M205 on softer paints net best results.

PowerFinish on paint that is a little worse off and SHOULD get a 2+ step, but wasn't in the cards for the owners budget

And I just got EFC and when used on the moderate clear on BMW with some spot-clay marring and cleaned up everything very nicely. And it finished down incredibly well.. I wish I had more of this! Only have about 8oz or so.

 

I've used 3M Ultrafina, 3M Polish Rossa, Meg's M205, Meg's D151, Menzerna 106, and more. Will totally depend on paint and conditions

 

OT: I sense a 3M thread coming soon, started by me. :lol: You guys who are using their stuff really have my curiosity up.I'm running a bit low on my standby Power Finish, and it would sure be nice to be able to pick up 3M stuff at the auto body supply place down the road.

 

You will love Extra-cut and Ultrafina or Ultrafine as it is called now.

 

I think I have a bottle of 3M extra fine cut (yellow cap) that I don´t use.

 

3M's EFC and UF are very good polishes indeed, so too is FCP, but it tends to be very dusty, which I'm not wild fond about.
Other one-step polishes not mentioned, are System One X and Mark V Mystique, which work very well with an appropriate pad for the type of paint/clear being worked on.
