After seeing Heath's new lens, I thought it would be a perfect addition for me as well.

Just got it today. With a couple accessories :)

This is a great walk around lens. Decent zoom, but not too much that I would need a tripod.

    Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

    Canon EW-78BII hood

    Canon 72mm UV Haze filter

Cool lens! Wish I had a 28-135... however I have my eyes set on some L glass. :)

    Thanks!

L series are way too rich for my blood. I'd have to get rid of one of my other hobbies if I wanted to invest that much.

    24-70?

Yeah I think I'd either go with a 24-70 or 24-105 first. Hey, you can always rent L lenses too! :p

    I rented a 70-200 f/4 L from borrowlenses.com

Huh, didn't know you could rent lenses. That may actually be very nice to try out lenses before actually laying down the cash for one!

24-70 seems to be the popular choice. As I hear that you sacrifice picture quality when you get into bigger zoom ranges.

I really want to get a fast prime lens next. Maybe the 50mm f1.8

I have the 50mm f/1.8 and it really is a nifty fifty. You can create some great DOF shots.

The 70-200 f4 IS is probably going to be my next lens. I can't really justify buying the top dog 70-200 f2.8 IS. It's just so expensive. If I get the f4 I can pick up the 10-22 as well which I also want.

Very nice lens, how much did you pay for it? I think I got mine for about $275 and it came out of a 40D kit and had never been used. I put on a nice Hoya HD filter and I've taken some great pics with it. Nice lens, but now it's time for me to upgrade the camera!

I paid 280 shipped for everything. lens, hood, and Canon UV filter.

I agree about upgrading the camera. I have a rebel Xt.

Link to the Hoya HD filter?

I can pick up another one too. 250 for the lens itself. used, but great condition.

    Carn Welcome to Detailing

You do realise a new lens thread is worthless without some photo's :D

Seriously though, congrats on the new addition!

Here's a couple quick pics I took with the new lens. Full auto is all, and no editing. The last 2 are photobucket links, and pb kills resolution for some reason:
