I need some help here, not sure if it will work but thought I'd ask. Well I accidently deleted a folder with a bunch of pictures from the vehicle I just finished detailing this weekend :acry2: :acry2: Does any one know how to retrieve it? To top it all off I cleaned out my 'Trash' basket. This is on my Mac Book too not sure if it makes a difference. So any help would be greatly appreciated, I phoned my IT friend but he must be as sleep...his working hours are early. Hopefully he'll give me a call tomorrow or come by and help I hope :beg: Mean wile I'm willing to try anything..but I'm not a computer person but I can get by.
The only way to retrieve it was to do a data recovery of the hdd once you empty trash it's gone forever. However if you go into finder and hit all images a duplicate might remain.
If you deleted the folder, you should be able to go into your recycling bin, find the folder, right click the folder and you should have an option to restore the deleted folder.
Not sure about a Mac, but in Windows there is a system restore option you can use to recover from a certain point in time. Try searching your OS help for system restore and see if you can recover from an earlier date.
if it was put into iPhoto, there is normally duplicated somewhere macintosh hd>pictures>iphoto library>originals>2009>then search for the roll Thats how you would look for them on mine. I have OS X 10.4
I would just do what my GF who knows nothing about comps does when she messes up somehting... brings it to the store and lets them fix it
There are data recovery services available but they are expensive. When you delete a file it only actually deletes the indexed location of the file, the file will remain unless it is written over. Don't add any more files and seek professional help if they are important. I paid $300 to get my hard drive files once before I backed up, but they got every single file back.
Use Time machine next time, it's simple and easy, and will really save your butt in a lot of situations. Hope you find it :mounty:
For freeware you could turn to Linux, there are quite a few tools. I have a lot of tools in my lab to recover data from just about anything, but they are expensive and require a lot of training to even begin to understand disk geometry, file system structure, etc. (which is why data recovery is expensive). PM me and I can walk you through some steps. Just remember, the more you use the computer or "mess around" without knowing what you are doing, the harder it is to recover your data (not impossible, just harder).

Well time machine worked well, that was about all I did. I got majority of the pictures, still missing some but it will have to do :shrug:
That is good to hear! I have learned from deleting pictures by accident sometimes not to take them off the memory card till I know they are safe.
Well what happened was that I was transferring some files from my Mac to my portable hard drive were I keep all my pictures, well I accidentally deleted a file of my Mac and thinking I still had a copy in my portable hard drive I didn't worry about it, when I looked in my portable hard drive and realized I had not transfered the file over that's when I realized I deleted it with out backing it up :wall: Well lesson learned and I got to know my Mac a bit more :shrug:
Glad you got some of them back. Just remember the faster you act, the better programs like Time Machine will work. Not true. Even once you empty the recycle bin the data is still there. The system tells you that you have that space back but it has simply marked that data to be written over. It's still there. In fact even if you formatted your hard drive with 1s and 0s four times there is still a way to get the data off.
