Alright I waited until the end to reveal my master plan. I've been discussing this with a few members, and before it had no context but now would be the perfect time to execute the plan. I want you to poop in a box and mail it to your [former] work. Put the return address as the same as the shipping address.
Can you detail for money? Just temporarily while you hunt for a new job. It's actually quite profitable once you get up and running.
Yeah I actually just started doing some extra marketing and I have 3 details lined up for the next two weeks. So i just need to generate more interest. Tough part is I need to make some income but also be heavily active in searching for a job.
Good to hear that you are at least making some money. If I were you, I would be actively hunting for exotics if you feel comfortable doing them. Come up with a plan, be friendly, and offer a discount and don't be afraid to be turned down. I always carry my business cards with me, and I try and just stop at a gas station on a saturday or sunday, when people have out their weekend cars. I think I'm gonna start carrying around a binder with a couple of photos of my work and keep it in my car. Another class of cars I specifically look for are ones that have been in light accidents. No dents, just a couple scratches down the side that are paint transfer but are removable. I remember back one I was 16, I got in a minor accident like that and just had a long scrape down my fender and door that actually looking back as a detailer, was completely removable. My parents got it quoted and it was $1100 from the local shop. People will be happy to spend 400 on a detail instead. Best of luck :mounty:
Thanks for the advice, I definitely comfortable enough to work with exotics but like you said I need to find a way into that market and actively be social. I have a few car clubs around here that I am working with. It seems I have been doing a lot of WRX's lately. I have a Mustang scheduled for this Sunday as well as a WRX and a 350Z for next week with an E Series AMG Benz for the following. People are happy with my work and the word is spreading and this helps because I am finally proficient and smooth with the Makita now.
Just read this and wanted to say you made the right move, like all of us, chalk it up as a learning experience. The questions i had in my mind was if they ever handed you an employee handbook so you knew what the guidelines were, and if you had talked too any other employees if that was the procedure they went through ? Good luck the rest of the way.
