I'm contemplating the purchase of either Black Wow or Leatherique Black bumper dye.
I'm leaning more towards Leatherique Black bumper dye‏ since I recall reading somewhere on this forum that it offers kind of a permanent dye.
Which one do the the experts here recommend?

    Thanks

I've never used the Leatherique dye stuff, but I've got a bottle of Black Wow. It's good. As dressings go, it's about as long lasting as one can reasonably expect. The tiny bottle looks really, really expensive, but it isn't - you use so little product that the price is actually pretty reasonable. At first, I found it a bit fussy to use, but have gotten used to it.

Any product with the word "dye" in it makes me a bit nervous. I mean of course, it's probably going to work well. However, dyes make me want to remove the item(s) in question from the vehicle, so stray dye doesn't get somewhere I don't want it. Which isn't always possible.

go with the leatherique or hi-tec vinyl and carpet dye. I did some of my exterior trim two days ago with hi-tec and it works great

It depends on the condition of the plastic or trim you plan on reconditioning. If it's a whiteish gray, go with the dye. If it's somewhat black, go dressing.

maybe i havent been using my black wow correctly, but it does not seem to look better or last longer than anything else i have tried. krshultz is correct in saying that the tiny bottle of BW will last a while, you do not need to use much! My mustangs only have 3 black trim items ... the wiper cowl and the 2 window belt mouldings, i found BW to be extra "non wow" on the belt mouldings as they are rubbery in feel not hard plastic. Same goes for any exposed windshield seals.

Like all detailing task’s the correct preparation before applying the product will ensure that it works correctly, and has both durability and aesthetics.

Black Wow - designed for any colour exterior plastic, this gel will restore your trims natural colour without use of dyes or colorants and provides a rich, long lasting look. Thoroughly clean the plastic with a cleaner like rubbing alcohol, Dupont PrepSol, IPA or other chemical solvent for oxidation and / or wax/polish removal, with a medium-soft brush before allying a protective dressing.

Directions - apply a pea sized amount to the foam applicator pad and massage it into your trim. You will see an instant improvement in darkness and evenness in tone. Continue to spread this out. Always work with pea sized amounts. The final look should be matte, not glossy and wet. There is no need to let BW dry or cure. Once applied, remove the excess with a towel or proceed to wash the car and using a wash mitt or sponge to wipe down the trim. Dry with a separate towel from the one you use to dry the paint

be sure to clean the surface with APC BEFORE application of Black Wow. Otherwise it will wash off in a first wash...

I just figured out a couple days ago that Bilt-Hamber Auto Balm works great on windshield cowlings. :applause2:
