Cleaning weight weight adesive off?

Sorry I mean wheel weight in the title.

What's a safe product to clean the sticky adhesive they use the hold on wheel weights that are used to balance wheels? Everytime I get new tires they remount them and leave sticky gunk behind. I don't want to use anything too strong and eat at the clear coat on my wheels. Any suggestions?

 

Autoglym Tar and adhesive remover. Soak the area and let it dwell for a minute and repeat. Do it a couple times and the adhesive will come off easily.

 

If you don't have immediate access to Ken's suggestion, I would suggest Goo gone or vinegar on a terry towel or a mf with a little bite. Scraping wiht a plastic razor blade to get off the excess and go at 'er with a medium compound as well may work. I would still go over the area with sealant..for the 15 seconds it'll take will be worth it.

 

3M Adhesive Remover, may be easier found in auto stores

 

This is wonderful stuff. I wouldn't be without it.

Tardis is pretty awesome stuff as well, but 3M is a whole lot easier to find. I save the Tardis for "special occasions." :giggle:

3M adhesive remover. stoners tarminator might do the trick also.

 

Another vote for the 3M adhesive remover. It also works wonders on tar/road grime.

 

I find that 3m stuff, or alternative as I use, works great for wheel weight adhesive, apc at 100% can work sometimes as well. What I do about once a year is take the wheels off clean them remove ALL the wheel weights and then apply a nice sealant that can stand up to the heat. Drive down slowly to Firestone were I have lifetime balancing and get it balanced and then I am happy for the another year of adhesive till it come time again to do a complete detail on the wheels.

One tip, if you are not going to be removing all the wheel weights I would clean the wheels and apply some tape over the weights that you do not want to take off if they are close to adhesive you would like to take off. I have accidentally gotten adhesive remover around weights I wanted to keep only to find out it compromised the adhesive and the weights come off while driving or just came off soon after cleaning.
