I started my Saturday Ritual Detail at about 9am today (taking a break right now, Supernatural goes on next) and had just finished washing the car. I pulled it into the warehouse and start to dry it. I see this scratch that has been annoying me since the day I got the car. Well, today I was going to defeat it! I was all prepared. 2000 grit paper, swirl and haze remover, painters tape and a bucket of water. I get the paper nice and wet, get the area taped off, get it wet and start rubbing away! When it felt sufficiently smooth, I got a MF and wiped the area down after pouring water over it to wash off any abrasives. I looked at my work. I dropped my MF. I may have let out a girlish gasp. I'm pretty sure I cried. To my utter horror, the scratch was now replaced by what looked like MILLIONS of little tiny scratches and a gray haze! But they were so smooth. I got out the PC while cursing and wiping away the tears. I put on the orange pad. I got out the Adam's Swirl & Have Remover (it's all I have until my Menz order(s) get here..lol) I applied an X of product to the pad. I let 'er rip! Furiously, I massaged the product into the disaster area. When it was time I pulled the PC off it's task and pulled yet another MF from the goody bag. I wiped down the spot. I looked at what was there. Suddenly, the clouds parted, birds sang and a hooker who happened to be walking by offered me oral for free. The tiny scratches were gone! The original scratch was gone! I didn't have to get my car re-painted! I'm much happier now. Detailing is fun!
are you new to wet sanding?? What did you think would happen when you took 2000 grit sandpaper to your car?? For me its like riding roller coasters...you get all worked up going to the top of the hill(sanding the clear) and once down the hill(compounding the spot) I typically get all worked up over nothing..
and a hooker who happened to be walking by offered me oral for free. I suspect wet sanding is 'prolly safer than getting a gum job by the hooker!!
I went very very lightly. I will post pictures of the car as soon as I am done applying Supernatural to the roof and hitting it with a shot of Red Mist.
Pics are uploading now..damned D60 pics..lol..Paint gauge? I saw one of those in a Miracle Detail video! I need one.
Shauna, you would be proud of me..I actually taped my car off! lol.. I'm trying to do it right and get good results. I am a bit dismayed with swirl marks right now. Since I got the halogen set up I can see more and more of them. I know the FLEX and the Menzerna will allow me to get them out. Damned photobucket and the slow connection here at the office.
Hey, let's put it this way, those wet sanding marks are nothing compared to what that hooker would have left on your tool (and I'm not talking about your PC).
