Well I'm wanting to make a go at mobile detailing I'm in the process of finding a 4x6 trailer to hitch to my 83 chevy caprice, till I can get something else.. I'm slowly tring to build my way up. I havent went to get my license, or ran a legal ad for 30 days in are paper. But IF ANYONE would please give me some insite on going about setting everything up that I would need to do in order to get this going. Any information would help and I would be very thankful ... items I have so far: shopvac/ attachments meguiars gold class wash many of brushes, etc. wheel cleaners leather cleaner/conditoner some microfiber towels
What kind of budget are you working with? Have you ever done detailing before ie:for friends and family?
I would suggest reading before doing anything. detailingworld.co.uk and look up Dave KG and read. I read for over 100 hours before making any move towards a business, or buying things.
Never used a buffer/polisher .. I've been reading up on how to, I goin to buy an orbital tomorrow and pratice on my chevy and a family car
I have been reading articles, handbook, tip, tricks, for months and months.. Thats all I have really been able to do. But I will read Dave KG thank u for info I had started a detailing business when I was 17 me and a friend of mine we did really well but didnt keep at it .. And ever since then I've wanted to do mobile
umm hopefully im posting all this the right way.. Anyways!! Well the budget I'm working with is not much. Right now looking for trailer, till then, I stock up on items needed. Yes I have done detailing before when I was 17 and I do friends cars and my granny's vehicles and such also I try new things out on my chevy
When I first started, I just had a wash and vacuum package and for an extra charge you could add wax. Keep it simple. Don't add polishing until you are competant with a machine. In this economy, specializing in the smaller packages will keep you busier than trying to get the high dollar polishing jobs. I can send you a list of what I do in my two smallest packages if you like. By focusing on the smaller packages, your start up costs will be kept down as well.
Well put Ken, I completely agree. I'm not sure what the cars are like around you, but hear having a pressure washer is almost a must for any detailing work, it will pay for itself very quickly and make your life as a detailer a lot easier.
I was 17 when I was detailing, and my friend did buffing/polishing and whatever else he didnt want me to do at that time.
