Hi all! Well this is the 2nd 599 GTB that I've done so far and I'm very thankful that I've had the opportunity to work on such fine automobiles recently ; it really makes me feel that all the work I've put into my company hasn't been in vain. This is a 2009 GTB that suffered some damage (we don't know if it was from the factory or the shipping company, but nevertheless, I don't care because it gives me an opportunity!) and was top priority to be repaired. I didn't have the luxury of a wash bay this time (therefore the inner rims still need to be addressed... next week when I can wash is properly), so the car was prepped with an Optimum QD wipe-down before I started and being that the car is brand new I was sure that there was no paint contamination, but I clayed it anyway. No contamination. My first inspection of this car last week showed that there were RIDS, but very isolated, and there were also holograms in the back panels. Today, when I inspected it closer I saw that there were more holograms in places that I didn't see before. The entire boot was full of scratches/holograms and I discovered that the doors (in certain places) also had buffer trails and the entire font half (reachable without breaking your back on this wide car) of the hood was swirly. OK I'll shut up now and show you all what I was up against. Generally hazy Deep scratch Can't see much here, but for those of you who like psychedelics... Holograms... More holograms... I still can't understand why the boys at the Ferrari factory polish the cars... Deep scratches on the trunk... the pictures don't depict the damage well because I'm a crappy photographer and it's a light colored car. Swirls across the entire hood... All taped off with my new roll of 3M blue tape... it's nice and thick, but honestly other than that, there's no difference in the regular masking tape IMO... Although the blue is trendy and looks nice, I'll stick with the regular 3M stuff that I bought 12 rolls of yesterday . I used Auto Magic Syntheticut to level out the RIDS with a 4" wool pad. I used a small pad because I didn't want to harm any of the other paint around it. After that, I used a Riwax cutting pad and InstaFinish #15 to take out the swirls. Then I followed it with InstaFinish #15 and a finishing pad to pull out the finer scratches. My entire polishing process was done under 900 RPM's. I spread all of the polishes at 600 and then sped up to 900 and applied about 30 pounds of pressure in the first couple of passes to cut the dreadfully hard ceramic finish, and then let up on the pressure to about (15-20 lbs.) to finish off. This was the same process for each pad and polish combo. I used some Optimum QD to remove the build up around the tape... wanted the extra lubrication to remove it before the IPA wip-edown. I gave this beauty a treat with one of my favorite waxes, Dodo Juice Supernatural... love that stuff! The wheels were treated with PBWS and tires and trim were bathed in InstaFinish Super Dress All. It's an Osram spotlight (the spotlight is very strong) with a swanky LED ring on it. The switchable LED function comes in very handy when you have to combat background light (change in light color)! Osram is a Hungarian company and I'm pretty sure you can't get them anywhere else but here . But, if any of you are interested I can look into doing a bulk buy for you guys... mine was about $40 (can't remember exactly).
