So the local body shop that i do work for has some of the local Mecedes Dealerships body work and he is always looking to do whatever he can to gain more of there work....Well he calls me last week on wednesday afternoon in a frenzy... The conversation went kinda like this...Hey George...Hey Lou Whats happening...uhhh uh ummm what are you doing??? well right now i am eating lunch....ha ha very funny...listen...uhh do you uhh are you busy this week?? i ask WHY....well i need a huge favor like NOW....OK...ill bite whats up?? well i have a black ML63 here that needs YOU like ASAP and needs to be done by noon on friday and my guys will only make it worse....so i think ok..an ML63 FUN...deadline..HMM...well i have the whole day thursday free and friday i have an appointment at 2:00 so i can make this work......what exactly does it need....he says uhh i dont know...it actually kinda looks pretty good to me but the customer is picky according to the dealership...you should probably come here and look at it...oh and uhh BRING THAT BIG LIGHT YOU HAVE (halogens)...ok well i will come by ready to work in the AM...what time you guys open up....ill be ready for you about ( OK...that works for me.... so i go down there and take a quick look and i get the story on the car....2007 bought some time in 2008 and the owner was not happy with the finish from the dealer prep guys...so they make a deal that when its in for its first service the dealership will fix it for him...so almost a year goes by and the guy racks up 20k on the clock and brings it in for its SERVICE and proper detailing...well the dealerships guys give it a run through the CAR WASH:applause2: and then wax it and slop some dressing on the tires...owner comes to pick it up and says NOOOOO WAY... I am NOT taking it....Sooo they proceed to send it to a local detailer who I dont think did a damn thing aside from a little fll/Glaze and some wax....second time he comes to pick it up he pulls it out into the sun and says..NOOOOOWAY...He sees SWIRL MARKS and CAR WASH DAMAGE....Kudos to the Customer for the good eye...So i look it over and you can clearly see that the car wash made it ugly and its hidden a bit with waxes and glazes....Out comes the foam cannon with Megs APC and a good foaming and wash...dry it off and WHOA...That was some serious glaze/wax they were using...the car looked like it was washed with a stiff bristle brush...On to the detail..... Wash Megs APC in Foam gun allowed to dell for 5 and then a rinse and a second foaming with a wash with Megs Hyperwash Wheels Megs wheel brightener and every brush and trick in my arsenal as well as some Stoners Tarminator Wheel Wells Foamed with megs APC when car foamed and then sprayed with APC at 5:1 and scrubbed with an arsenal of brushes Door Jambs and the like Megs APC 10:1 and swissvax wheel brush as well as some misc sponges Clay Megs Blue with ONR solution as a lube...the clay wasnt too bad as i guess someone must have clayed it already but typical of lazy detailers they did not clay the ROOF or the lower half of the car Polish Menz SIP on a Megs Cut pad @1500 rpm on the real bad areas Menz SIP on a megs Polish pad @1500rpm on the whole truck Menz power finish on a megs finish pad on the Megs G110-wanted to be sure ther were NO swirls, Halograms, ETC Final finishing Sealed with Autoglym Super Resin Polish & Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection Final finish with Souverain which i happen to really love on black.... Wheels got PB wheel sealant Tires got Megs Hyperdressing straight allowed to set up for a few and then wiped off to keep slinging to a minimum Wheel Wells dressed with hyperdressing 4:1 and wiped clean Exhaust got a wash with Megs wheel brightener and some steel wool as well as sealed with PB Wheel sealent Interior wiped down with Megs APC 10:1 and then a moiste MF towel to make sure no APC left behind...Windows received Sprayway inside and out and Ran-X Out....Door seals wiped down with 1z Gummi pfledge(sp)...Dash Wood received the same Souverain treatment that the exterior got... since this was a time limited detail and i only had 9-6 on Thursday and 9-12 on friday I limited the picture taking...as it was i actually followed him to the dealership since it was slightly drizzling out (2 blocks away) and wiped the car down in there bay so it was perfect for the customer... Before fresh out of two detail shops Look at the wheels..imagine this is straight out of the detail shop....TWICE whoo needs to clean the wheel wells when you detail Interior...who needs to clean the corners Door jambs...nahh dont clean those...you dont see em when your driving..LOL Drivers side door opening...nahhh the owner will never notice the streaking dont clean the wax out of the fender openings...thats hard to do..LOL The grille was a mess...all the nooks and crannies were caked with dirt..hard to see in pics... Now i tried my best to get pics of the hallograms, swirls, rids and disgustingness but i didnt do a great job at that.... Afters...unfortunetly it was drizzling on and off so outside shots were minimal...and i was OUT OF TIME.....
i left my cards in the console although i am not really supposed to.... yes he did and he was extremely pleased from what i was told....
Nice Detail. It looks great for someone that didn't want to do that much...:giggle::giggle::giggle: Great job. It looks beautiful and I enjoyed the write as well. Thanks for sharing...:thumb::thumb::thumb:
one thing with this one is that the wheels were spotless when we pulled it out of the shop but you should have seen all the dust on the wheels after we got to the dealership....i had to spend 15 minutes wiping all four down with Last touch because they were horible....and we only had to make 4 stops...one at the shops exit, one at the corner , a stop sign just before the dealership and in the dealers bay....
Great job, these cars are awesome and really fast for an SUV. have you seen the non-wood steering wheel? It looks a lot better. Great story too. It's amazing how incompetent some of these "detailers" are.
Dealership 'detailing' you got to love it :shakehead: :shakehead: If anything they keep us detailers entertained :thumb: I honestly don't mind dealership or body shop's craftsmanship, I actually look forward to such vehicles...but that's just me :crasy: Great turn around, the rims look great eace:
Thanks guys....yeah Lou the owner of the shop is always good for these type of jobs with a story behind them....... this wasnt onl done by Dealership guys....they did it first and then a LOCAL Detailer whos name i dont know did it....can you imagine they BOTH missed all the important little things.....IMHO they make what we do seem all that much better.....
