Well, went to the K9 Police Training Dog Kennel today and picked out a male GSD. Gonna name him Gunnar. 5 month old male. GSD german blood lines from both parents. Picking him up and taking him home friday. Took a few picks of my new pup. In the next to the last pic is his sister. She's an auburn gsd. The guy said she's really rare. He said her puppies would be black. But, he'll never go in heat !! hehehe I'll post more pics friday. Thanks for looking!!! Might have to sell more of my stash to pay for dog food!! Heath
Not gonna do Schutzhund. Probably just do some basic obedience. I would like to do Search n Rescue though.
Beautiful looking dog, my dad has a k9 trained in criminal apprehension , search and rescue, and drug sniffing. It is amazing to watch them work. I used to go spend the say with my father laying tracks and hiding drugs in various warehouses just to watch him find them all quickly. Also great name for a police dog, my fathers GSD name is Justice.
You do not have to do protection work in Schutzhund unless you get into the higher levels. I found the tracking training and trials much more challenging than AKC or UKC tracking. Plus the people I trained with were often doing search & rescue as a job which I think made the training more intense.
I would like to do the search n rescue, just being in EMS that would be cool. The place I got the dog, they breed the dogs and also do the training. Bomb, drug, tracking, basic obedience, personal protection and patroling. Gunnar's not a police-K9, I just happened to buy him there. Should be a pretty large dog!! hehehe. He was lots bigger than his sister. She was a pretty dog as well.
Man, that guy had a bunch of dogs. Malinois, Dobermans, Shepards and Lab's. One of the Malinois was just barking his ass off spinning in cirlces in his pen. The guy said its time for them to be fed, thats why they're antsy. Thanks Dana!
When I saw the name of this thread I thought it was a new kind of radar police use to catch me speeding. Very beautiful dog though.
Congratulations Heath, What an awesome dog maybe you should get his sister too. Now my wife wants a puppy...O-Boy...:thumb:
