Bad detailing ?

    I just got my car back today from a local company who use nothing but Meguiar products. My car had gotten some bad scrapes from a previous wash and since I do not currently have either a DA or rotary at hand I had to send it away for detailing.

    Here is the result after their work, driver door.

    [IMG]

    They had been using MG Ultra Cut 105 but I cannot see any difference from previous to when I turned the car in.

    Note that when I drag a nail over the scrapes they do not stop the nail, which should indicate that they are not very deep. It is also not visually possible to see them when looking straight at the door, only upon close inspection from the side or with a halogen lamp, as shown in the picture.

    In my opinion the 105 with correctly applied pressure on the Flex (which is the machines they use) should easily get out these scrapes, yes ?

    The car is a VW Touran silver metallic.

  2. I would agree with you. Maybe they didn't use a pad with enough cut, or they suck lol. You would think even with just a DA that these marks could be removed...especially with M105. Do you know if they finished up after the M105 with a polish?

    That doesn't look right, shame, hope you didn't pay too much for the "detail" :shakehead:

    Obviously they did not work long enough ! I'd delivered the car at 08.30 and got it back at 15.30, but I reckon they did not spend more than 4-5 hours total using these products (all MG and the time spent includes washing);

    Ultra-Cut 105
    Quick Detailer 66
    Last touch D-155
    Gloss cleaner D-120
    All season dressing D-160
    High Tech Yellow wax

    The scratches may look deep, but as I explained they are not deep enough to be felt when going over with a nail....Cost me about 170 bucks....

    This company is being used by several dealers in the county, VW included.

    Got a tip from a MG guy who said;

    "...Me personally, I would do a Test Spot using a wool pad on a rotary buffer using M105 with a wool cutting pad while you were standing there and then see what the results of the test spot were, (check to see if all the scratches are removed to your liking), and how long it took to do that one little spot."

    So this is what I'll do. "Luckily" it is only the side doors that are affected.

    Whilst I'm not standing up for their shoddy work, VW clear is very hard.

    That looks like pretty severe marring to me, a PC wouldn't touch it IMO (especially with hard VW clear).

    It just sounds like they didn't work the polish properly.

    I don't care what type of products they use or if VW clear is a hard clear. You paid for a service that was not completed. $170 is not throw away money, but that's a throw away job. You could have purchased $170 in supplies yourself and done better.

    Ask to have it fixed or don't use the service again.

    So exactly what was this detailing company promising you for $170? For detailing a VW Touran (which has a hard clean and is a van) for $170, sounds like you may be expecting too much for that price. Then again, I don't know what details go for over there in Norway.

    Norway, and you don't know Scandic Shine :what: :what:

    Just teasing, but since you are in Norway I would recommend you visit Ketil from Scandic Shine, he will provide you with products and knowledge if that's what your after, if all you'd like is someone to detail yoru vehicle, he can arrange for that as well :thumb:

    Ya I agree.Before everyone beats up on the detail shop.Did you pay for paint correction?
    I know $170.00 is alot but it would NOT include paint correction in one of my details.I wouldn't even do an exterior only with paint correction for that.But this all depends on what services you were qouted. If it were a shoty job or not.

    Low priced detailing that includes any sort of paint correction should be a red flag indicator. In fact, I'm surprised to see that they even used m105, most of these small detail centers end up using basic compounds and polishes that are well below par or outdated. Total paint correction is a process that costs well above $170 for decent results.

    I have already been in contact with Pirex, and several other well known Norwegian detailers.

    Also - I know $170 is very little money, but fact of the matter is that I specifically asked if they could correct it - which they agreed to - and to that price.

    The car is due in the shop again next week, if they say they cannot do it or don't have the ability to, I'll take my money in return and do it myself or with another detailer from my VW club where I live.

    Had the car in again today, they spent a couple of hours with same polish and blue pads and flex rotary and the result was satisfactory. After work I did another wash, then DG 105 and DG111. Super Wet look indeed !

    Thanks for all input guys. Now I only need a DA of my own.....
