I read about this story this morning. WTF is going on there? It sounds gang related if you read between the lines. Happy Friggin New Year or what? Calgary records first four homicides of new year
That's an everyday thing here in PR. We have had days that there are between 10-20 murders... in 24 hours!
Are gangs an issue in Canada? I have always assumed Cananda had much, much less gang exposure than the United States. That may be my own ignorance showing. Aren't hand guns illegal in Canada? I guess the guns they are using are found on the black market.
Hand guns are legal so long as they are registered? I always thought hand guns were illegal period in Canada and only rifles and shot guns were legal. Again my ignorance showing. Yeah, that is the thing about strict gun laws. Criminals tend to ignore the law so the laws only affect law abiding citizens.
Regrettably, Calgary seems to be going down the drain when it comes to gangs, guns, drugs..ect..ect. It's really something else, we moved here when I was 9 years old, I consider this my home and frankly it's very discouraging to see such news. The problem is that Calgary is experiencing a tremendous amount of growth and with growth comes violence. It seems to go hand in hand, there have been so many grow up's here in town it's shocking and the remarkable thing is that the grow ups are not in the "shady" neighborhoods, no sir, the grow ups have been in the upper communities...that bothers me. I sometimes wonder what the Policy are doing but to be honest I sympathize them, I mean I sometimes think to my self, what could possible be running through the Police's minds. I mean officers have it the worse, here is what I mean, if an officer even draws his gun right a way he's under investigation, if the officer shoots his gun well the entire world stops for a intense investigation...now if the officer shoots someone well that opens a whole can of worms. From police brutality to questionability or the officers motive..bla..bla..bla. I mean really, the Police is here to protect but where things are at the moment it's ridiculous...but then again corruption is everywhere. Who am I to judge  Again that's just my opinion on what's going on in Calgary, I'm sure this happens all over the world, it just seems that Calgary/Canada is starting to get noticed for the wrong reasons :shakehead:
unfortuntly the first thing that come with a huge econmic boom like we had is scum, we get the people that noone wants. I still see calgary as safe place but unforunlty one of the prices we pay to be a hugly prospeious city is shit liket his
in canada to own a firearm you need to have it registerd and you have to have a licence, guns cannot be shot in city limits. We have stircter laws on things like criminals legaly owing fire arms but unfortunly people can still buy them
in PR, From January 1st 2005 to december 31st 2005 there were 800 total murders.... all unsolved and still open. Or was it in 2006? cant reember
Well, right now, in 2008 there were 804 murders, which most of them are still open cases. But the biggest number of murders for 1 year was 995 in the 90's. That is just too much for an island that measures only 100 miles x 35 miles
^^ Makes me glad not to be there any more.... only vacation for me now. I am still trying to convince my grandparents to sell their house and move to the states
If you want to convince them, tell them to rent the house rather than selling it. Just in case they want to come back, they have something and not to worry about buying or renting.
