Seems a bit low. Depends on what you want to do. Surfing the web it would work fine. Downloading large files or gaming you will want more.

Do a speed test with what you have now to compare... Speed Test

I'm getting 4932kbps up and 740kbps down. At home I pay for 7 mps, not sure what I get. I do some gaming so I need the speed.

    Just did it at work:

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 2230 kbps (278.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2882 kbps (360.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

    At home:

Download Speed: 8978 kbps (1122.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 482 kbps (60.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

I believe this is pretty close to what my RoadRunner package is supposed to offer, though it can peak as high as 15000kbps down and 1000 kbps up.

It really depends what kind of connection you have and how close you are to your ISP. Also, you'll never really reach their claimed speeds. Their claimed speeds are just what's possible but hardly ever will you experience a perfectly optimized connection.

I had Roadrunner at the house:

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 4845 kbps (605.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 488 kbps (61 KB/sec transfer rate)

It's a bit short but like others have said you hardly ever get what they say. Is your connection DSL, Cable or something else? Do you surf, download big files or game online at all? I don't think computer would mater too much unless it's really old.

There are a lot of factors that effect speed. Cable is more like token ring in that your bandwidth is shared by a group of your neighbors. That is why speeds are slower when kids first get home from school, last thing at night, during big events, etc.

The various xDSL types are more effected by conditions at the CO and limited in the distance the signal reaches from the CO. The signal for xDSL is typically limited to 10-15,000 feet from the CO, beyond that distance only IDSL is available and the speed is at best 144k.

well its a dsl connection but if there telling me 1.5-2mps and i wont reach their claimed speeds doesn't that give me a REALLY slow connection?

It's faster than Dial-up. However, a more useful answer would be yes that is certainly on the very low end of broadband speed. Is 2 Mbps the fastest connection your ISP offers? Is your service relatively inexpensive? Are there other providers in your area? And probably the most important question, do you need more than 2 Mbps?

if you upgrade how could it stay the same? wtf is the upgrade then..does it make it slower?
