Surface Prep? before Jetseal + colli 915?

Hi guys i was just wondering if i could use SRP under Jetseal + colli 915. Or do i have to run round to get myself something else?

What is IPA? I need to find something to wipe down before applying sealant / wax because my applicator pads keep on getting dirty.

 

Isoproply alcohol. You usually mix it 50% water and 50% Alcohol in a spray bottle...

 

You would be better off with Prep-sol and if you are going to use IPA, go with a stronger mix, 80/20 or even 90/10.

 

I find that having a stronger mix the IPA does not stay on the paint long enough to be worked with. I have stuck with 50: 50 works best for me

 

I hear what you are saying but that really isn't strong enough to clean everything off the paint, but if you are happy with a 50/50 mix stick with it.

Hmm i do agree , 50/50 may sometimes be a little too weak.

 

much much much rather use swissvax cleaner fluid..you aren't going to get any bling from prep-sol or prep al or any of those types.. actually i read somewhere it strips vital oils from clear coats which is why it is used on metal before painting..even the guy said at the napa he wouldn't use that stuff on any paint only pre paint.. but many on here LOVE the stuff. my point is that sv cleaner fluid added a real nice amount of glossiness to the paint.. prep sol doesn't and in the end it doesn't leave behind oils and nutrients for the clear to absorb. plus when i was going to buy prepsol at napa it was like 40 bucks a gallon.. now i know cleanerfluid is wicked expensive.. but it is also super super important.. when i didn't use it on the white 540i i noticed a huge difference and ezyme didn't pop nearly as much.. so i stripped it ezyme and did it with cleaner fluid first and noticed a HUGE difference..

also on another note with the 540i i used cd/2 for the first time ever on it and was impressed.. i forgot to burn it off though and let the car sit for a day.. after i drove her i had 2 engine mounts blow.. and bmw said i need a new engine.. i know it was 99.9% coincidental but it just pisses me off.. i loved that 540i.. now i think it is all done for i am not paying 9k for a short block or 22k for the block and all the internals.. i think the engine mounts might fix the huge amount of shake in the engine bay but it is a v8 and naturally balanced so why even if the engine mounts were gone sitting still why would it be shaking like that.. it esp sucks when a year ago i replaced the transmission($5000) b/c both shops (1 dealer and one of the best bmw repair specialist in the country) said there were no signs of cylinder wear and the engine was in awesome condition esp for the nikasil engines of that era that got destroyed by the high sulfer content in gas in the 90's and before.. used cd2 on my 335 with no ill effects and actually used it on an m3 with no ill effects.. but it just sucks that when i used it on my 540 within 5 miles of driving it i have to have the car towed and the ultimate in bad news.. i have spent close to 30k in repairs in 8-9 years with that car.. it was the ultimate pig.. but when she ran good she was a prize to drive in my eyes.. i enjoyed driving it more than my buddies e46 m3.. not as much as the 335 but definitely more than the m3..which i found laughable but maybe b/c it was a convertible.. a coupe i doubt i could say no too.. but i really loved how simple the car was in terms of driving.. sure it had tons of electronics and every feature works.. but the car drove very raw.. yet very very comfortable and it is a car you feel you have control of all the time. sry just had to rant about my baby.

 

I use zymol bath an hd cleanser before my wax.

 

If the paint is polished correctly you will not see any less shine after the Prep-sol wipe down. If you do see less shine then you know that the polish oils were not broken down completely and were slightly filling.

 

Have you tried it cold? It might slow down the evaporation rate long enough to work it in.

purplewidow could you link us the page about the oils in the clear coats if you can please would be an interesting read. I got to say i was totally lost when i was reading the 2nd half of what you wrote. was trying to link it back to topic somehow haha. anyways sorry to hear what happened to the car but i still cant seem to understand what you wrote.
